The first Dunn Loring Summer Bible Camp was held on Mondays and Wednesdays from July 6 – August 3, 2011, for our young children between the ages of 2-8, with special field trips and outings organized on Fridays. Organized by several of the moms, the bible camp was centered around the theme, “David: Having a Heart That Honors God.” The responsibilities were shared by all the mothers of the children participating in the camp, and the approach for the lessons was to teach through songs. The gatherings took place in the homes, and the lessons focused on the following topics:
- The Definition of Honor and the Story of David
- God Looks on the Heart, Not Outward Appearance
- Learning Responsibility in Small Things
- Singing to the Lord
- David Fought Goliath/ Taking a Stand for God
- Honoring Others with Manners
- Companionship, Loyalty, and Keeping Your Word
- God’s Desire for a House
- David’s Heart Matching God’s Heart
In addition to lessons, the sisters organized outdoor activities and crafts for the children, specific to their age range, followed by an optional lunch. The summer camp turned out to be a very precious and sweet time with wonderful reports from all the children and their parents! In addition to enjoying all the songs and lessons, the children loved being together and even at a young age, understood the need of having companions who love the Lord.
